Welcoming admissions journey
Our admission process offers a clear, supportive path for families, with straightforward steps, personalized guidance, and a warm introduction to the Summit-Questa Upper Elementary community.
Rooted in authentic Montessori, our Upper Elementary curriculum encourages students in Grades 4 and 5 to think independently, make meaningful choices, and take increasing responsibility for their learning. As academic challenge deepens, children strengthen reasoning, collaboration, and confidence within a supportive mixed-age environment at our Montessori school in Davie.
Strengthening expression through reading, writing, and voiceUpper Elementary students deepen their skills in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and composition through a rich and purposeful Montessori approach. As they progress, they learn to express ideas with greater clarity, structure, and creativity while developing confidence in both written and spoken communication. The curriculum encourages thoughtful analysis, independent work, and a lasting appreciation for language as a tool for learning and self-expression.
Building confidence through meaningful mathematical thinkingStudents build a strong mathematical foundation by exploring concepts such as multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, ratios, and early algebraic thinking in concrete and meaningful ways.Montessori materials and guided practice help children move from hands-on understanding to abstraction, strengthening accuracy, logic, and problem-solving skills. This approach allows each child to develop confidence and fluency while discovering the beauty and order of mathematics.
Exploring the language of shapes and spatial thinking Geometry in the Upper Elementary years invites students to investigate the properties of shapes, angles, perimeter, area, volume, congruency, and similarity through active exploration. Using visual materials and precise language, children develop spatial reasoning and a deeper understanding of how geometric principles relate to the world around them. The work fosters careful observation, logical thinking, and an appreciation for patterns, structure, and design.
Discovering how people, cultures, and civilizations connect Through the study of geography, history, civilizations, economics, and civic life, students gain a broader perspective on human society and their place within it. They explore how people live, work, govern, and interact across time and place, making meaningful connections between the past and the present. This interdisciplinary work nurtures curiosity, empathy, global awareness, and a growing sense of responsibility as informed members of a community.
Investigating the wonders of the natural world Science in Upper Elementary encourages students to ask questions, make observations, test ideas, and investigate the natural world with wonder and discipline. From botany and zoology to chemistry, physics, and earth science, children engage with scientific concepts through hands-on experiences and purposeful research. This process strengthens critical thinking, deepens respect for nature, and helps students see science as an exciting way to understand the world around them.
Each day in Upper Elementary is shaped by deeper academic exploration and growing responsibility. Throughout the day, children collaborate with peers, take part in lessons, work independently, and engage with hands-on Montessori materials in ways that make learning active and relevant.

For Upper Elementary students, growth is supported through a close partnership with families. This includes three progress reports each year, a weekly newsletter shared with the school community, regular parent–teacher conferences, and open communication via WhatsApp. Student progress is celebrated through a special Bridging Ceremony, which marks the completion of one level and the transition to the next. During the ceremony, students cross a wooden bridge to symbolize their learning journey - a meaningful Summit-Questa tradition that honors progress and readiness for what comes next.
In Upper Elementary, students continue to develop ISP life competencies through an authentic Montessori approach that connects independence, responsibility, and real-world learning. Across these years, practical life extends beyond the classroom into meaningful experiences that build communication, respect for others, time management, teamwork, and confidence. Students strengthen these competences through day and overnight field trips, team-building experiences, community service, mentoring younger students, public speaking and presentation opportunities, business and entrepreneurial projects, gardening, cooking and food preparation, and caring for animals. Rooted in Montessori philosophy, these experiences help students care for the environment, contribute to their community, and apply learning with purpose. Opportunities such as fairs, classroom roles, and Market Day encourage students to lead, collaborate, and engage with the world with empathy, initiative, and growing independence.
At Summit-Questa, language learning helps students develop strong communication skills, deepen cultural awareness, and engage with the world from a broader perspective. The school welcomes families from all nationalities and linguistic backgrounds while supporting students in building confidence in English across reading, writing, grammar, discussion, and presentation. Spanish is taught from Early Childhood through our Montessori Middle School in Davie, giving students sustained exposure to an additional language throughout their school journey. Language growth is tracked through assessments helping ensure consistent development over time.
At Summit-Questa, students gain a broader view of the world through international experiences that foster cultural understanding and global awareness. In Elementary, this starts with Montessori-based exploration and field trips connected to science, history, and the environment. As part of the ISP network, ILOS (International Learning Opportunities for Students) also connects learners with peers around the world through shared projects and global experiences, including ISP Artists, ISP Changemakers, ISP Scientists, ISP Chess Masters, and ISP Virtual Exchange.
Beginning in Grade 4, students take part in a hands-on entrepreneurship experience by creating and running their own businesses for Market Day.
